….Ondo 2024: Massive defections hit PDP as Former Speaker, Ex-State Chair, Mimiko’s Associates move on

The camp of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is being hit by the wave of defections and resignations  as some notable members are planning to quit the party.

This is coming three months ahead of the November governorship election in the state.

Among these defectors are trusted allies and followers of the former governor Olusegun Mimiko who have concluded plans to dump the party and join the All Progressives Congress, APC.

A strong ally of Mimiko and former Ondo west 1 constituency lawmaker, Hon. Tomide Akinribido few months ago dumped the PDP for the APC and he is now the SSA to the Governor on ICT.

It was gathered that a former member, House Of Representatives from Ondo State, Kolade Akinjo on Sunday resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Akinjo represented Ilaje/Ese-odo federal constituency in the national assembly until 2023 on the PDP ticket.

He also contested and came second in the PDP governorship primary in Ondo State that was won by a former Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi.

Akinjo made his new decision known through a resignation later addressed to the ward chairman of PDP in Mahin Ward IV, Ilaje Local Government of Ondo State.

Although he did not disclose his next line of actions, sources said Akinjo is also defecting to the APC.

The defectors, it was learnt met  with the APC leadership on Saturday and all arrangements had been concluded to announce their defection.

Those expected to join the APC, according to the source include former Speaker, Ondo state House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, former works Commissioner during Mimiko’s government, Gboye Adegbenro and a former House of Representatives lawmaker, Joseph Akinlaja.

Others are former PDP state Chairman, Ebenezer Alabi who resigned his membership in July, and Former education Commissioner, Olajide Adejuyigbe among others.
