Why is WAEC still withholding Ondo Students results

Controversies rage on as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has continued to withhold the results of some Ondo State students who sat for the 2024 SSCE examination, due to the state government’s alleged failure to pay the required fees.

Unconfirmed report indicates that some students whose results are yet to be released, were alleged that their school involved in examinations malpractice.

But the State Government insisted it had paid its debt, even as the Ondo State Government expressed shock over the withholding of results.

SUNSHINETRUTH News reports that it’s worth noting that the government has always been responsible for paying WAEC fees for public students as part of free education policy, but the latest controversy trailing the withholding of the results was due to an alleged malpractice.

Confirming the situation, the Ondo State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire declared that the state government still maintains its zero tolerance posture to examination malpractices and urged WAEC to carry out the necessary verifications to ensure that the affected students were not being unjustly punished.

The Ondo State Government has expressed shock over the withhold of results of some students who participated in the 2024 West Africa Secondary Secondary School Examination WASSCE, in Ondo State by the West Africa Examination Council, WAEC.

Reports indicate that some results of public secondary school students that sat for the examination are still being withheld by WAEC, even after the state government had paid all the necessary registration fee.

Reacting to the report, Ondo State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire while expressing shock over the development, said WAEC has not given the state government any reason for withholding the results.

He affirmed that the State Government had paid all the necessary registration fee and wondered why WAEC is still withholding the results especially this period when admission into tertiary institutions is ongoing across the country.

The Commissioner said the withholding of the results by WAEC was capable of jeopardizing the hope of securing admission into tertiary institutions by the affected students, and called on the examination body to release the results promptly.

Mr. Akindolire declared that the state government still maintains its zero tolerance posture to examination malpractices and urged WAEC to carry out the necessary verifications to ensure that the affected students were not being unjustly punished.

While sympathizing with the affected students and their parents, the Commissioner assured that the West Africa Examination Council, WAEC, as a reputable examination body does not take pleasure in punishing students without justification, assuring that the withheld results would be released appropriately.
