NOA begins sensitization of Ondo people on proposed ‘National Values Charter’

……embarks on Voters education ahead of Ondo 2024 guber poll.

The National Orientation Agency, NOA, Ondo State Directorate on tuesday commenced sensitization of Nigerians and those in Government on the proposed unveiling of the National Values Charter as a Blueprint for promoting core values that will develop the country and her citizens.

The new Director of the NOA in Ondo State, Mr James Adekunle disclosed this at a Press Conference at the agency’s State Head Office in Akure, tagged on the National Anthem and the National Value Charter Awareness.

Adekunle explained that the National Value Charter was a mutual commitment between the country and her people, targeting at the need for government at all levels to fulfill its obligations to the citizens while Nigerians in return should uphold the national values.

The NOA Director also highlighted efforts to embark on Voters education ahead of the November 16, 2024 governorship election in Ondo state, while also urging residents of the state to shun acts that could lead to flooding.

“This conference is convened at the instance of the Director General of National Orientation Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu and is centered on interventions policies of the Federal Government which I will address adequately in the course of this press engagement

“National Anthem; As you are aware, the Federal Executive Council has approved that the first stanza of the National Anthem should be rendered at all official functions, while the three stanzas should be for special occasions, such as Independence Day. Democracy Day, Inauguration of the National Assembly. Children’s Day, Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Workers Day.

“Similarly, the Council approved adopting the third stanza of the new National Anthem as the new National Prayer. This move aims to promote unity and motivate patriotism amongst Nigerians.

“The National Anthem stands to evoke a positive sentiment in citizens, thus gingering them towards patriotic endeavors. Also, positive sentiments create positive beliefs and passion for positive contributions towards making a great nation

“I therefore urge all citizens to familiarize themselves with the correct lyrics and embrace this and other national symbols of our national identity.

“National Value Charter: Our nation is also set to unveil a National Values Charter, a blueprint for promoting core values that will guide our actions and decisions, Values are principles, beliefs, and ideologies shaping us as individual.

“The National identity project becomes highly important to redirect all Nigerians. irespective of class, ethnicity, and religion, to the ideals and values for which we were traditionally known and used to build our societies and their institutions.

“This charter is a mutual commitment of the country and citizens to the national cause whereby Government at all levels must fulfill its basic non-negotiable promises in return for commitments from the citizens.

“The charter is embedded in the ‘Nigerian Promise and the ‘Citizens Code’ which is a set of seven promises of the country to her citizens and a set of seven obligations of the citizens to the country.

Adekunle enumerated some of the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, pleading that “As these and more reform initiatives are being implemented, citizens’ patience and understanding is important.

“Voter Education for the Forthcoming Governorship Election in Onde State As we approach the governorship election in the state, voter education is crucial. To ensure that we have a free, fair, credible, and acceptable Governorship election come 16th November, 2024, National Orientation Agency is committed to empowering citizens with the knowledge to make unformed decisions and exercise their civic rights in a peaceful atmosphere towards shaping the future of our state.

“Flood Prevention: In the light of recent flood incident in Ondo city, the Agency has intensify its sensitization campaign to sensitize people in the flood prone areas, across the State, on the need to take precautionary measure to forestall reoccurrence of flood and to guide against casualties,” the NOA Director advised.
