Ondo flood: Kolawole Akinmosun hails Aiyedatiwa, sympathizes with victims

Fellow citizens of Ondo State,

I wish to address the recent devastating flood that ravaged Ondo town, leaving a trail of destruction and displacement in its wake. I share the pains and concerns of the affected communities. The flood’s impact on lives, properties, and livelihoods is profound, and our collective efforts are necessary to alleviate the suffering.

Firstly, I commend the swift and proactive intervention of our Governor, His Excellency, Gov Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who promptly deployed resources to mitigate the disaster. His leadership and commitment to the welfare of our people are exemplary. The governor’s timely response has helped minimize losses and ensure the safety of our citizens.

The flood situation, though unfortunate, presents an opportunity for us to reassess our environmental and infrastructural priorities. Government should:

  1. Enhance Drainage Systems: Upgrade and expand the drainage infrastructure to prevent future flooding.
  2. Enforce Environmental Regulations: Strengthen laws and enforcement to prevent improper waste disposal and ensure clean river channels.
  3. Public Education: Launch awareness campaigns on flood prevention, safety, and environmental best practices.
  4. Support Affected Residents: Provide relief materials and support to those affected, ensuring their prompt recovery.

To the affected residents, I urge you to:

  • Stay safe and avoid flooded areas
  • Keep valuables secure and protected
  • Cooperate with emergency responders and government officials
  • Seek shelter in designated safe zones if necessary
  • Report any damage or losses to relevant authorities

In the face of this disaster, I applaud the resilience and solidarity displayed by the people. Neighborhoods have come together to support one another, demonstrating the true spirit of Ondo State. As we work towards recovery and prevention, I assure you that Gov Aiyedatiwa’s government remains committed to the well-being and prosperity of all Ondo State citizens.

To achieve lasting solutions, the administration should engage stakeholders, including experts, community leaders, and residents, to develop a comprehensive flood control plan. This plan will incorporate short-term and long-term measures, ensuring Ondo town’s vulnerability to flooding is minimized.

Together, we will rebuild and emerge stronger, more resilient, and better prepared for future challenges.

Kolawole Akinmosun
Thank you.
