Special Interest C’tte on sports: Ondo athletes rally support for Aiyedatiwa’s re-election, as Gov promises facility upgrade
Sportsmen and women in Ondo State have been assured of a renewed commitment to sports development.
Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, expressed this commitment at a rally organised by the Special Interest Committee on Sports for the Aiyedatiwa/Adelami campaign.
Represented by his Special Assistant on Political Matters, Mr Smart Omodunbi, the Governor urged the sports community to mobilise aggressively for his victory in the upcoming November 16 election.
Aiyedatiwa said, “I am a sports-loving Governor, which is why I have the interests of sportsmen and women at heart. Rest assured that after the election, my commitment to this sector will remain steadfast, with many more developments planned for the sports council.”
He added, “I am counting on you all to canvass votes for me on November 16 by encouraging our people to vote massively for me and my deputy on election day.
“Since I assumed office as Governor, I have not disappointed you, and I never will.”
Earlier, the Chairman of the Special Committee on Sports for the Aiyedatiwa/Adelami campaign, Comrade Adebayo Opeoluwa Abayomi, commended the Governor for his dedication to sports development in the state.
Represented by the Secretary of the committee, Mr Henry Babatunde, Abayomi noted that Governor Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated his love and passion for sports by awarding contracts for the renovation of the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.
He assured the Governor that sportsmen and women across the state would mobilise support for his success in the election by reaching out to sportspeople in all three senatorial districts.
He added, “Sports is a major part of every household.
“We are using this platform to reaffirm our loyalty and commitment to the government of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
For too long, Ondo State has lacked adequate sports facilities; since our creation in 1976, we haven’t had facilities capable of hosting national or international events.
This is changing now with the renovation of the old Akure stadium and the promised completion of the new stadium near Akure High School.”
“We are ready to mobilise massively for your victory on November 16.
“We are not politicians; we are not affiliated with any political party but support any government in power, especially one that genuinely cares for our interests”, he stated.
The rally began at the Ondo State Sports Complex and concluded at the Governor’s Office in Alagbaka, Akure.
