……Aiyedatiwa not used state fund for governorship election— Ajulo
One-day colloquium on Ondo State Public Complaints Financial Crime And Anti-Corruption Law 2022 was organized on Monday 2nd December, 2024 in Akure by the Ondo State Public Complaints Financial Crime And Anti-Corruption Commission (SPFACC).
In a keynote, Dr Olukayode Ajulo, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Ondo State said Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa was not using state fund in the governorship election held on the November 16, 2024 in the state.
Ajulo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who explained that the state government had took proactive measure to tackle corruption longhead said that Aiyedatiwa would not siphoned public fund for personal interest or for an election.
“There was a complaint that Gov. Aiyedatiwa released money for governorship election.
“But, I am not surprised that Mr governor said he never touched any public fund for the election or took kobo from govwrnment coffee for the election.
“If anybody want to prove me wrong, they should find out from the last 10 months on how much we have spent and appropriated
“So, the government of Ondo State has place a premium on the fight against corruption. Mr governor understand sustainable development rooted in transparency and accountability.
“He(Aiyedatiwa) has not merely reacting to corruption, he takes proactive measure to prevent it. He has initiated several programmes aimed at promoting good governance and accountability,” Ajulo said.
While speaking on the programme, Ajulo said that under the criminal code, state had prosecuted several corruption/fraud cases involving state funds without any conflict with the federal agencies.
He appealed to the Anti-Corruption commission to focus on state level offences and work along side federal bodies while avoiding jurisdictional overlap.
He, therefore, reiterated the state government’s commitment to support the commission in it’s work to make a significant impact in reducing corruption in Ondo State.
Earlier, Mr Williams Akintoroye, SPFACC Chairman said that the colloquium was to look into the prevailing problems of the commission and aimed to move it’s to a solid foundation.
Akintoroye, who said that the commission was established in 2022 by the late governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, said that the commission was able to carry out some activities in line with the duty and provision of enable law guide them.
He, therefore, appealed to member of the public and scholars to join hands with the commission to fight corruption into stand still in the state and country at large.
“It’s good for us to lay solid foundation to move the state forward and achieve our desire and If we are able to get it right as a commission, it will bring impact on the present administration,” Akintoroye said.
