Ondo journalists begin 2024 Press Week celebrations today with Church Thanksgiving

As the Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) will today Sunday commence its 2024 Press Week with a Church Thanksgiving.

This is was disclosed on Tuesday in a Press statement issued in Akure by the Chairman of the 2024 Press Week organizing Committee, Omosileola Adesoye-Ajayi and Secretary, Fidelis David.

The celebrations will start on Sunday, December 8, with a Thanksgiving Service at Salvation Gospel International Centre, off-Ilesa garage road in Akure.

The weeklong event, themed “Setting the Agenda Amidst Electioneering Paradox and Elusive Economic Development in Nigeria: The Media as the Fourth Estate of the Realm,” will culminate in a grand finale and award ceremony on Friday, December 13, 2024 that will be chaired by the Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Ayo Wisdom Olawande.

Aside Governor Aiyedatiwa and former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, the press week will honor notable personalities to include; Dr. Seun Osamaye, Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Women’s Affairs; Hon. Chris Ayebusiwa, lawmaker representing Okitipupa Constituency 1; Mr. Ayo Durodola, a distinguished media icon and diplomat; and Comrade Ademola Odudu, Ondo State Chairman of the NURTW, as well as Mr Olumide Origunloye (Proprietor, Crest FM).

Throughout the week, activities will include a charity visitation, a free medical outreach for journalists and their spouses, and a symposium featuring Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire representing Ondo Central; the ZLP Governorship Candidate, Dr. Abass Mimiko; a strong Chieftain of the APC, Barr. Olumuyiwa Adu, and a Seasoned Educationist, Professor Olusegun Adegbulugbe as lead Speakers.

Governor Aiyedatiwa is expected to grace the symposium as the Grand Patron and Special Guest of Honor and declare the press week celebration open on Tuesday.

The event will be chaired by Hon. Dr. Abiola Makinde, the lawmaker representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency, with the new NUJ National President, Comrade Yahya Alhassan and Ondo State NUJ Chairman, Prince Leke Adegbite as the chief host and host, respectively.

Additional activities include a health walk to be led by the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, a children’s party, indoor games, a novelty football match, and a Jazz/Asun/Illegal Night to be hosted by Dr Kayode Ajulo, SAS, OON, Ondo State Attorney General and Justice Commissioner.

The weeklong festivities will wrap up with a Jumat service at Akure Central Mosque, followed by the highly anticipated Grand Finale, Dinner, and Award Night at the NUJ Press Centre, Alagbaka Akure.
