Confusion as Armed Robbers invade Akure, steal 3 vehicles

It was like in a movie but a confusion and apprehension for the residents of Oke Ogba community in Akure, the ondo state capital as armed Robbers stormed the area, stealing three vehicles within 24 hours.

The residents have thrown into panic and confusion following the incident which occurred on Wednesday night and Thursday night.

It was gathered that the vehicle owners packed their cars where they usually packed them, woke up the following morning and they could not find their cars.

It was also gathered that a Toyota Camry and  another Toyota Camry pencil were stolen while the type of the other car has not been ascertained as of press time.

It was gathered that the two security men engaged by the community allegedly down tool on the night of the incident having demanded to the chairman of landlord association of upward review of their monthly salary.

A resident who spoke with Newsmen under the condition of anonymity alleged that the security men were prime suspects.

He said, “ The security guards came to the landlord and suddenly said they were no longer working. The chairman told them that they could not just disengage themselves without giving prior notice of at least one month for the community to get another security guards.

“We were surprised that on Thursday night, they didn’t come to work, leaving the gate to the community open overnight.

“We only woke up to see that two vehicles from different residences have been stolen. One vehicle had earlier been stolen on Wednesday midnight. This is shocking and devastating.”

It was gathered that the case had been reported to the Fanibi police station, while the suspects have been handed over to the Police.

It was also gathered that there have been cases of robberies and burglaries at Oluwalose community in Oke Ogba for months as a transformer Cable was also stolen last month without any arrest.

Some residents who were worried about the spate of robberies in the community wonder why such menace had not been addressed in a state capital.

One of them said, “We learnt that this community is notorious when it comes to robbery and burglaries and efforts of the landlords to secure the place are not yielding expected results.

“We want to beg the police command to help us. The armed robbers have thrown many families into agony and it is disheartening.

“Between May last year and January this year, there have been more than 9 cases of robberies and burglaries. All cases have been reported to the fanibi police station but we are not seeing anything yet.
