Achievers University, Owo, welcomed 1,133 new students into the 2024/2025 academic session during its matriculation ceremony held on Friday 31st January, 2025.
In her address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Omolola Irinoye, urged the newly admitted students to maintain a high level of discipline and responsibility throughout their time at the institution.
He emphasized the university’s strict stance against misconduct, including examination malpractice and cultism, warning that any student found engaging in such behaviors would face serious consequences.
Prof. Irinoye also highlighted the university’s commitment to nurturing not only academic excellence but also fostering personal growth, courage, and confidence, ensuring that students are equipped for leadership roles and professional development.
She noted that any student found guilty of such act will be adequately dealt with and handed over to the proper authority.
She said “The university has zero tolerance for examination malpractice, cultism, drugs abuse and any form of social misconduct. Students caught engaging in any of these vices run the risks of expulsion from the university.
“It is no news that Achievers University upholds the highest standards of academic integrity, discipline and ethical conduct. We expect you to demonstrate diligence in your studies, respect for university regulations and a commitment to personal and professional development.”
Irinoye also stressed on the importance of attending classes saying that lateness to classes or failure to attend classes attract grave punishment.
She added “We take attendance at lectures very seriously and failure to meet 75% attendance is automatic carryover or repeat of the session as applicable.”.
The VC further disclosed that the student’s disciplinary committee is ever ready to prosecute and sanction any student who flout any of the school rules and regulations.
Also, Dr. Bode Ayorinde, the Pro-Chancellor of the Institution, appealed to parents to actively support their children’s education by ensuring prompt payment of tuition fees and instilling strong values and character in them.
Dr Ayorinde cautioned the students against violence such as fighting, bullying and harassment.
“Again we have zero tolerance to violence in any form including fighting, bullying, harassment, and. use of hard drugs. Any student caught in any of these vices faces the risk of expulsion from the university, and such student will be handed over to the police for prosecution,” he said.
The guest speaker for the event, Mrs. Yemisi Ayorinde Hunjenukon, an alumnus of the university, encouraged the new students to strive for excellence and set themselves apart as leaders.
She stressed the importance of mentorship and urged the matriculants to clearly define their goals to make the most of their time at Achievers University, as the world eagerly anticipates their contributions.
