Defamation: Ajowa ward 5 Councillor-elect, Ajiboye requests immediate retraction, apology from Muyiwa Asagunla
…gives 3 days ultimatum, demands N500m compensation over theft allegation
The Councillor-elect representing Ajowa Ward 5 in Akoko North West Local Government, Hon. Ajiboye Ezekiel Oluwatoye, has demanded an immediate public apology and retraction from Chief Muyiwa Asagunla over alleged defamatory remarks.
Speaking with journalists in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Hon. Oluwatoye condemned a report aired on an Akure-based radio station on Monday, February 10, 2025, in which Asagunla allegedly defamed him by calling him derogatory names.
According to Hon. Oluwatoye, Asagunla falsely accused him of stealing cassava products and being stripped naked before emerging as a councillor, the claims he described as baseless and damaging to his reputation.
The Councillor-elect, who described himself as a disciplined and patriotic citizen, stated that while he would not engage in a war of words, he was giving Asagunla three days to issue a public retraction and apology in at least four national daily newspapers, Channels TV, TVC and Arise TV including three Akure-based radio stations, noting that failure to comply would leave him with no option but to seek legal redress in court.
Hon. Oluwatoye is also demanding ₦500 million in compensation for the alleged defamation.
