Hon. Omowunmi condemns attacks on Ondo Finance Commissioner

Hon (Princess) Omowunmi Olatunji-Ohwovoriole, the former Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ondo State, strongly condemns the attempted character assassination of Hon. Mrs. Isaac, the Finance Commissioner of Ondo State. This heinous act is malicious and has no place in a civilized society.

Hon. Omowunmi emphasizes that Mrs. Isaac, like any individual, has the right to privacy apart from her political role and deserves to be respected and protected, not harassed or targeted with violence.

She calls on civil society and women of Ondo State to raise and protect their own. Inquiry to one is injury to all.

As a vocal advocate for women’s rights and empowerment, the Akure Princess urges the people of Ondo State to support women in leadership positions and promote gender equality. “Women are the backbone of our society, and it’s essential that we recognize their value and promote their participation in all aspects of life,” she emphasized.

Notably, women have gradually been integrated into governance in Nigeria. Ondo State seems to be lagging behind in this aspect. The few women in positions of power should be encouraged for fairness and equity. It’s essential for Ondo State to recognize the importance of supporting women in politics. Ekiti is doing fantastically well in this regard.

The recent allegations against the Finance Commissioner are suspected to be politically motivated, particularly because she is a woman. “It’s essential to recognize that the Finance Commissioner’s gender should not be a factor in evaluating her performance or policies,” Hon. Omowunmi stressed. “We must promote gender equality and support women in leadership positions, regardless of their political affiliation.”

This call is also extended to the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) to take action on the matter. The NCWS should condemn the baseless allegations. By doing so, the NCWS can demonstrate its commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women.

Hon. Omowunmi commends Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his progressive stance on gender equality, demonstrated by appointing Mrs. Isaac as Finance Commissioner.

Signed:

Hon. Omowunmi Olatunji-Ohwovoriole

Former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Ondo State
