Hon. Omowunmi Isaac’s Stewardship as Ondo Finance Commissioner: Setting the Record Straight

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT: THE TRUTH ABOUT HON. OMOWUNMI ISAAC’S STEWARDSHIP IN ONDO STATE

The recent malicious attacks on Hon. Omowunmi Isaac, Ondo State’s Commissioner for Finance, are nothing but a desperate ploy by disgruntled actors seeking to destabilize the progress of the state. These baseless allegations, spearheaded by individuals who have lost access to illicit financial channels, are riddled with misinformation and deliberate falsehoods. Their aim is to discredit an exemplary public servant whose only “crime” is enforcing financial discipline and ensuring accountability in government transactions. It is imperative to dismantle this web of deception and present the undeniable facts about her stewardship.

Since assuming office, Hon. Omowunmi Isaac has been a formidable force in blocking financial leakages that previously drained Ondo State’s resources. Her unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility has unsettled those accustomed to exploiting the state’s finances for personal gain. Under her leadership, revenue collection has been optimized, expenditure streamlined, and government funds directed toward meaningful development projects. Her bold reforms have not only stabilized the state’s economy but have also placed Ondo on the path to sustainable financial growth—an achievement that should be commended rather than vilified.

One of the most ludicrous accusations leveled against her is that she wields unchecked power over the governor, overriding his decisions and withholding funds. This claim is both absurd and illogical, given that government finances operate within a structured system of approvals and oversight. Every expenditure is subject to due process, with multiple layers of checks and balances in place. To suggest that a single commissioner could hijack the entire financial administration of a state government exposes either a profound misunderstanding of governance or a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

Another falsehood being aggressively promoted is that Hon. Omowunmi Isaac is orchestrating ethnic marginalization, particularly against Ilaje officials. This narrative is nothing more than a divisive strategy designed to incite unnecessary tension. In reality, she has been instrumental in ensuring an inclusive government, advocating for merit-based appointments rather than sectional favoritism. Her detractors, unable to fault her competence, have resorted to playing the ethnic card to create discord where none exists.

Furthermore, the claim that projects have been abandoned due to her refusal to release funds is outright misinformation. On the contrary, she has enforced strict policies to prevent fraudulent practices among contractors, insisting that payments must correspond with tangible progress. This approach has prevented the wasteful abandonment of projects—a problem that plagued previous administrations. By demanding accountability from contractors, she has protected Ondo State’s resources from being squandered by unscrupulous individuals who now see her as an obstacle to their self-serving interests.

The ongoing smear campaign against Hon. Omowunmi Isaac is nothing but an orchestrated attempt to return Ondo State to an era of financial recklessness. Those attacking her are not acting in the best interest of the people; they are driven by desperation to regain control over public funds for personal enrichment.

It is imperative for well-meaning citizens to reject these baseless attacks and focus on the tangible progress achieved under her leadership. Ondo State deserves a future built on integrity and accountability, not a return to the corruption and impunity of the past.
