18 elected LG Chairmen take over today in Ondo

All is now set as the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will today, Monday, February 17, 2025, administer  oath of office on the newly elected local government Chairmen and their Vice Chairmen.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at the International Centre for Culture and Events (The Dome) in Akure.

This follows the local government elections held on January 18, in which the All Progressives Congress won all chairmanship seats across the 18 local government areas of the state.

A statement from the state government confirmed that Aiyedatiwa will swear in the elected council officials, urging them to prioritise grassroots development and embrace good governance.

Dignitaries expected at the event include Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Olamide Oladiji, members of the state legislature, Chief Judge Justice Olusegun Odusola, President of the Customary Court of Appeal, judges, APC Chairman Ade Adetimehin, Chief of Staff, Head of Service, and other top government functionaries.

The ceremony is expected to draw political stakeholders and residents eager to witness the formal inauguration of the new council leaders.

Recall that the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission had on January 20 presented certificates of return to the 18 chairmen and their vice chairmen, while the 203 councillors-elect received theirs on January 22.

The ruling APC secured all 18 chairmanship and 203 councillorship seats in the election.
