Insecurity: Ondo Assembly begins process of regulating Scavengers’ operations

ODHA TAKES STEP TO CHECKMATE CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES OF SCAVENGERS IN ONDO STATE.

In order to reduce criminal behaviour and promote a saver environment for all, a call has gone to relevant stakeholders to rise to the activities of scavengers and enforce law that will regulate such in the State State.

The call was made by members of the Ondo State House of Assembly in their resolution at a plenary sitting presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt.Hon.(Chief) Olamide Oladiji in Akure today.

Moving a motion for the matter to be discussed on floor of the House, the acting Majority leader and lawmaker representing Akoko North -East Constituency, Hon. Oluwatoyin Japhet, Observed that the activities of the scavengers have become a threat to security of the State.

While condemning the nefarious acts of some of some of them,the House admonished all local Government Chairmen across the State to ensure that scavengers are registered and provided with identity cards through field survey,oral interview and other data collation techniques in order to track and regulate their activities.

The House later called on the Ministry of Environment and relevant law enforcement Agencies to ensure effective implementation of laws and regulations aimed at promoting a healthier environment for all.

The House had earlier enumerated some advantages of scavenging which include employment,waste recycling and wealth creation, alleged that majority of the scavengers now engage in criminal activities.

In another development, the House received the report of the meeting with representatives of the National Association Of Proprietors of Private Schools(NAPPS),Ondo State Chapter and Management team of Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in respect of a petition forwarded to the House by NAPPS.

In its recommendation,the House urged NAPPS to always interact with the Ministry so as to get along with the activities and programs of the State government without hiccups at all times.
