Ondo JNC elects new officers, as Comrade Ajiboye emerges new Chairman

Organised Labour in Ondo State has elected Comrade (Chief) Ajiboye Oluwasegun Adesuyi as the Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) in the state.

Comrade Ajiboye is also the Ondo Chairman of Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) and thus becomes the first JNC Chairman to emerge from MHWUN.

He was elected alongside Comrade Ebiseni Kayode (Vice Chairman), Musa Samuel (Secretary) Esan Olusegun (Assistant General Secretary), Adebayo Kehinde (Treasurer), Arobode Felix (Ex-officio) Adesida Adeyinka (Ex-officio) and Oluwole Tope (Ex-officio) to run the affairs of union in a by-election held at the NLC Secretariat, Alagbaka, Akure.

In his acceptance, the new JNC Chairman, Comrade Comrade Ajiboye Oluwasegun Adesuy pledged to give priority to the welfare of workers in the sunshine state.

“The journey so far has been so smooth, we thank God today for my emergence as the JNC chairman in Ondo State. Historically, I’m the first Chairman of Medical and Health Workers’ Union, Ondo State, to be elected as the JNC Chairman.

“The position of JNC, personally, is concerning the issue of civil servants of Ondo State, and by the grace of God, very soon, they will see positiv difference in our decisions.”

Ajiboye hailed his predecessor, Comrade Ademola for his leadership prowess in repositioning the JNC in the state.

“My former JNC Chairman, who is the newly elected NLC Chairman performed expectionally. By the grace of God, I will build on his legacy. In the welfare of the staff, we are ready, and we are not going to compromise in any level.”

In his remark, the newly elected NLC Chairman in the state, Comrade Ademola Adeniji Olapade who said he believes in the ability and capability to the new JNC Chairman and other officers, called on the new executive members to cooperate with NLC for the betterment of workers in the state.

Earlier, Comrade Gbenga Olowoyo, the returning Officer for the election and the Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Civil Service Union and the National Secretary Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) said the position became vacant following the resignation Ademola Adeniji Olapade who was recently elected as the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

“The regularization of the position of JNC is necessary. You know that the chairman that was elected on 28th January recently emerged as the state chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and on the basis of that, the chairman who was equally the state chairman of JNC now decided on his own that if he wants others to have active participation in the trade union movement. He now decided to step down.

“I’m sent from the national headquarters of JNC to witness and superintend the conduct of the by-election to fill the position of chairman, vice-chairman, treasurer and ex-officio.”

He described the process as “very democratic and peaceful. I want to commend the trade union movement in Ondo State. It’s peaceful and they have what you call sense of maturity in the way they are conducting the trade union movement in Ondo State.”

He admonished the new leadership to continue with the trend of good leadership and equally encourage workers in the state to cooperate with the leadership so that their welfarism can be attended to by the state government.

“One of the things I want to admonish them is to employ what you call the concept of social dialogue. They must have what you call inclusivity in terms of carrying everybody along so that they can have what you call unity of purpose,” Olowoyo said.
