Three persons have lost their lives in two separate accidents in Ondo state that occurred in the last 48hours.
While a mother and her child was killed in Ose council area, Keke driver was crushed by a truck in Akure.
……GRADER CRUSHES MOTHER, CHILD TO DEATH IN ONDO COMMUNITY
A woman and her child have been confirmed dead in Ute, a community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state.
The two victims, whose identities were yet to be disclosed, were reportedly crushed by a grader belonging to the local government.
The grader, which was working on a road project in the town, was said to have suffered brake failure, leading to the fatal incident.
Spokesperson of the state police command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident and said an investigation had begun.
“The incident is true. We have commenced investigation,” the command’s spokesman stated.
The chairman of Ose Local Government, Mr. Clement Ojo, also confirmed the incident in a statement.
He said the council had launched a probe into the mechanical faults that led to the crash and would take measures to prevent such incidents.
“The tragic accident, which occurred as a result of brake failure in a grader owned by the local government and deployed for road rehabilitation under our rural development programme, has brought great pain to all of us. What was intended as a noble effort to improve access and infrastructure within the community has now become a moment of intense grief.
“This is a loss that touches us all, not just as a government, but as members of one human family. A hardworking mother and her innocent child set out to the farm like on any other day, only to have their lives cut short in the most heartbreaking way. No words can adequately express the sadness and regret we feel as a government and as a people”
……TRAGEDY: HOW TRICYCLIST DIED IN CRASH AFTER CHURCH SERVICE IN AKURE
A tricycle operator, popularly known as a Maruwa driver, has died in an accident involving a truck along the Ijoka area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The tricyclist was said to be returning from a church prog in the early hours of Monday when the unfortunate incident occurred.
His wife and son, however, escaped death, sustaining only minor injuries.
He was reported to have died before he could be rushed to the state hospital for treatment.
His tragic death caused panic in the area as his colleagues followed his injured body to the hospital.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the Maruwa driver was trying to avoid a pothole when he rammed into an oncoming truck.
He said the impact of the accident on the tricycle was massive.
“The accident was fatal because of its impact. It was only the driver that died; his family members were able to escape death,” he said.
