
As part of measures to avert flooding in the stare, the Ondo State Government has launched a targeted intervention to address flooding in Akure and surrounding communities.
As part of this initiative, two excavators have been deployed to the Akure metropolis to clear waterways and prevent flooding, ensuring the safety of residents and their property.
This intervention focuses on the Ajipowo area along Ondo Road in Akure South Local Government Area, where the clearing of waterways is underway.
Speaking, the Executive Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Fasua, who supervised the exercise, emphasizes its importance in safeguarding all parts of Akure from flooding.
He commended the state government for this proactive measure and assured that no flood-prone area would be neglected.
Fasua also cautioned residents against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in waterways, as it obstructs water flow and contributes to flooding.
“We will take drastic action to address indiscriminate dumping of refuse in waterways. It is a bad habit that must be seriously tackled and dealt with.
The consultant to the state government on clearing of waterways, Elisah Ebijimi said he is committed to completing the task on time, ensuring timely intervention in flood-prone areas.

According to Ebijimi, the state government has ordered the completion of clearing of waterways in Akure and other areas.

Residents have expressed appreciation for the government’s timely intervention, acknowledging the positive impact of the initiative on their communities.
This effort is part of a broader strategy by the Ondo State Government to combat flooding across the 18 local government areas.
Measures include dredging canals, desilting drains, and channelizing waterways to ensure the free flow of water during the rainy season .
