The Rotary Club of Akure Prestige has commissioned a newly renovated library at the African Church Comprehensive High School, Alagbaka, Akure, amidst expression of joy and expectation of securing a greater future for the coming generations.
The project, spearheaded by the club’s outgoing President, Rotarian Oloruntoba Adegoke, is part of the community service initiatives carried out each Rotary year.
While Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Adegoke flanked by the in-coming President of the Club, Rotarian Kolawole Ajibade and their Executives, pointed out that the club’s commitment to supporting education and fostering learning environments that inspire academic excellence.
Adegoke traced the story of how the project was birthed and the school benefited from the club, moreso that members of the club hold their meeting in the nearby of the school. “And I said, there is a school beside us, let’s go there and see if there is a project to be done here. And with one spirit, one mind, they all agreed with me.

Adegoke said “I said, okay, let’s go there. And the following day, we were here in the school and we met the (former) principal, let me use the terms of the immediate past principal of this school, we were here, we said, Ma, we want to come and visit you and see if there is anything that you would need we can do in this school. And she said ah, there are a lot of things to be done in this school.
“We said, okay, let’s come and show us around, let’s see what and what we can just pick from the whole lot of things to be done. So while we were coming out from our office there, she said, ah, this is our library. And we entered the library.
“What we met here was not too okay. And the roof and the ceiling is almost coming down. And we were shocked by wooden sticks. And what brought our main attention to it was when we met some students here reading.
“Students reading under that (terrible) condition, we were moved. Tears almost came out of our eyes. And we said, ah, Madam Principal, we don’t need to go any further to anywhere. We don’t need to look for any other project to do. There is no way as Rotarians that we will pass this library this way, and say we are looking for other projects to be done.
“And that was where and how we concluded that we are going to take up the renovation of the library and that we are going to report back to the board of our club and the members. And without any problem, it was a unanimous decision that let’s go there and fix the library. And today, that is what we are seeing today and the rest is history,” the President said.
In an interview, the in-coming President of the Club, Rotarian Kolawole Ajibade, expressed delight that Rotary Club Akure Prestige is prioritizing education for a better future, adding that the renovated library will provide a more conducive atmosphere for reading at the African Church Comprehensive High School, Alagbaka, Akure.
In her remarks, the Principal of the African Church Comprehensive High School, Alagbaka, Akure., Mrs. Abiola Aminu, expressed deep appreciation to the Rotary Club for the kind gesture.
She encouraged students to make full use of the upgraded facility to enhance their learning experience.
