Harness Potentials of NGOs to Tackle Rural challenges —Daramola Adesuyi Foundation ‘DAF’ urges Ondo State Government

The Daramola Adesuyi Foundation (DAF) has called on the Ondo State Government to leverage the capacity of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in addressing critical educational and healthcare challenges in rural communities.

The Foundation emphasized that empowering and funding NGOs can enable them to develop more tailored, grassroots solutions—ultimately reducing the burden on limited government resources. DAF argues that more collaboration with NGOs can amplify the impact of social interventions and improve outcomes in hard-to-reach areas.

CASE STUDIES

KENYA

Across Africa, several governments have already begun institutionalizing partnerships with NGOs to enhance service delivery in underserved communities. In Kenya, the government collaborates with NGOs such as the Kenya Education Fund and AMREF to support rural education and healthcare, especially in marginalized regions.

RWANDA

Similarly, Rwanda has integrated NGOs into its national health system, resulting in measurable improvements in maternal health and access to primary education. These models show that when NGOs are properly supported and strategically included, they can serve as indispensable partners in national development.

DAF’s Impact: Education, Technology, and Holistic Community Support

DAF is actively demonstrating the power of localized NGO engagement in Ondo State. Through its Career Counseling initiative, over 150 secondary school students have received academic and career support.

The Foundation’s Scholar Awards provide tuition, uniforms, and essential learning materials to high-performing primary school pupils, helping reduce dropout rates and increase school attendance. Furthermore, its Digital Skills Training Program offers basic and advanced ICT education, positioning rural youths for meaningful opportunities in the technology sector.

Beyond Education: Integrated Health and Welfare Interventions

In addition to its educational efforts, DAF invests in community welfare through food distribution programs, the rehabilitation of school playgrounds, and road improvement projects. These activities address broader health and safety challenges in rural communities.

In recognition of its contributions, DAF has received commendations from the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board and other local education authorities. The Foundation maintains that expanding such NGO-led interventions through strategic government support can accelerate rural development and create more sustainable social outcomes.
