…..I’m happy, I’m leaving Ondo State without kidnap case in the last one month —CP Afolabi
Mr Adebowale Lawal, on Monday assumed office as the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, after taking over from Mr Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi.
During the handing-over ceremony, CP Afolabi who has been redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, expressed gratitude to God, the Inspector General of Police, and the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for their support during his short tenure.
Afolabi highlighted the successes achieved under his leadership, particularly in crime prevention. “We’ve not had a single case of kidnapping in Ondo State for the past one month,” he said.
He attributed this success to the crime prevention strategies introduced and the dedication of his men.
Afolabi praised Lawal, saying, “the incoming Commissioner of Police is operationally very sound. His CV is even richer than mine because he has spent more time in the academic area than me.”
He urged the press and stakeholders to extend the same level of cooperation to Lawal.
Afolabi highlighted the importance of mutual trust between the police and the public. “We came up with this initiative of community safety partnership which has taken us even across the river,” he said. He noted that 70% of breakthroughs came from information shared by the public, demonstrating the enhancement of mutual trust.
With Lawal at the helm, the Ondo State Police Command is set to embark on a new chapter in its efforts to maintain peace and security in the state.
As the outgoing commissioner handed over the reins, he expressed gratitude to the people of Ondo State for their cooperation and support during his tenure.
Lawal, in his response, acknowledged the efforts of his predecessor and pledged to build on the successes achieved.

The new CP said, “I want to appreciate what you’ve been able to do in this command. I have confidence that with the management team around me and the support of the good people of Ondo State, we will live up to expectations.”
The new Police Commissioner called on stakeholders, including the military, civil defence, and other state actors, to support him in addressing security challenges in the state.
