Reps member pushes for Creation of Ose State from Ondo State

OSE STATE CREATION BILL SPONSORED BY HON. IFEOLUWA EHINDERO PASSES FIRST READING IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

In a groundbreaking move towards the restructuring and equitable reorganization of Nigeria’s federating units, the House of Representatives has today passed for First Reading the “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Sixth Alteration) Bill, 2025”, seeking to create a new state to be known as Ose State.

The Bill, sponsored by Hon. Ifeoluwa Ehindero, Member representing Akoko NorthEast/NorthWest Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Students Loan, Scholarships and Higher Education Financing, proposes the establishment of Ose State, which will comprise 28 Local Government Areas from Ondo North Senatorial District, with Ikare-Akoko as the proposed state capital.

The passage of the Bill for First Reading marks the beginning of a significant legislative journey that speaks to the collective yearnings of the people of the region for greater inclusion, improved governance, and regional development.

“Today, we took the first legislative step in answering the long-standing call for the creation of Ose State. This Bill is not just about boundary redefinition—it is about economic justice, political fairness, and the empowerment of communities that have been historically underrepresented,” Hon. Ifeoluwa Ehindero said shortly after the session.

The lawmaker further noted that consultations have commenced with stakeholders across the 28 proposed Local Government Areas and that broad-based support from the people will be crucial as the Bill moves to its next stages—Second Reading, Committee consideration, concurrence by the Senate, and ratification by at least 24 State Houses of Assembly as required for constitutional amendments.

Hon. Ifeoluwa Ehindero reaffirmed his commitment to providing visionary leadership that prioritizes the socio-political advancement of his people while urging all sons and daughters of the proposed Ose State to unite and lend their voices to this noble cause.
