Socio-economic activities paralyze, as Odigbo Community seeks BEDC, Ondo Govt’s help to end 9yrs Blackout

Worried by negative effects of blackout on socioeconomic activities in the town, Residents of Ogbe community in Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo State have sought the BEDC and the Ondo State government’s intervention to end persistent lack of electricity supply in the area.

It gathered that the community has been plunged into darkness for over nine years, making life unbearable for its inhabitants.

According to residents, the lack of electricity has had a devastating impact on their lives, businesses, and overall well-being, without major actions from the state government and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

A resident of the community, Mr Oloyede said, “It’s like living in a prison. We can’t even watch TV or listen to the radio without generating set, and the cost of fuel is suffocating us.

“The absence of electricity has also taken a toll on our local businesses, with many of us struggling to stay afloat.

“We’ve been promised electricity by the past administration, but nothing has changed, we need action, not promises,” he said.

Also, Mr Adeolu Folarin said, “My business has been on the verge of collapse since we lost electricity, I’m forced to rely on generators, which is expensive and unsustainable.

“Access to electricity is a fundamental right that should be enjoyed by all citizens. Electricity is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.

“We just want electricity, which is a basic necessity. We deserve better than to be left in darkness for nine years.

“The government should come to our aid, we urged them to take immediate action to restore electricity to our community, ” he stressed
