Why SDP removed Akinyan as Ondo State Secretary —Chairman clarifies

The Ondo State chapter of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, has removed its State Secretary, Comrade Jimmy Akinyan, from the position with immediate effect due to alleged gross misconducts.

The announcement was made by the State Chairman of the party, Barrister Gbenga Akinbuli, during a press briefing in Akure.

According to him, a stakeholders’ meeting of the party found Akinyan guilty of what he described as grave misconduct ranging from insubordination and alleged financial impropriety to anti-party activities and acts of sabotage during elections.

Barrister Akinbuli said the decision was unanimous, stressing that such behavior was a violation of the party’s values of loyalty, integrity, and discipline.

A five-man disciplinary committee led by the State Legal Adviser has also been constituted to review the matter and advise on Akinyan’s continued membership in the party.

Meanwhile, Mr. Femi Ikoyi has been appointed as the new State Secretary of the SDP in Ondo State in acting capacity.

The party chairman insisted that the removal marked the beginning of efforts to rid the SDP of indiscipline and sabotage, while repositioning it as a credible opposition in the state.
