The controversy surrounding the purported election of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ondo State Chapter, deepened on Sunday as findings revealed that the Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Omoyofunmi Segun Henry, is not aware of any such exercise.
According to correspondence gathered by our reporter, the Commissioner is currently in Asaba, attending the ongoing National Youth Games, and is not expected to return to Akure until Tuesday.
Further checks at the venue of the alleged election, SITA, Akure, showed that officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development were conspicuously absent, raising questions about the legitimacy of the exercise.
Efforts to reach the Ministry’s Press Officer for comments proved abortive, as calls placed to his line were unanswered as at press time.
The development has fueled growing concerns among stakeholders about the credibility and recognition of the purported election, especially after the State Executive Members of NYCN, led by its Chairman, Pathfinder Matthew A. Ogunmolawa, had earlier issued a public disclaimer, distancing themselves from the process.
