A GREAT DAY AT THE GOVERNMENT HOUSE CHAPEL, ALAGBAKA AKURE – 07/09/2025
It was indeed a great and special day once again at the Government Chapel today, 07/09/2025, as the choir began the service with different songs and led the congregation in ministration, singing “I’m going higher in His presence” and many other inspiring songs. The entire congregation was moved by the Holy Spirit, dancing joyfully and praising God with different melodies and styles of worship.
Shortly after, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Executive Governor of Ondo State, took over the pulpit and asked the congregation to lift their hands in adoration to the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the Alpha and the Omega. He reminded everyone that if we believe in our hearts that Jesus Christ died, resurrected, and ascended into Heaven, then we are called to enjoy His salvation and victory in our lives.
He continued by saying that we must find grace and mercy in God, for it is by His mercy that we are not consumed. He emphasised that this is why we must not depart from Him because it is through His mercy that we have been set free from our sins and no longer live under condemnation as long as we are in Christ Jesus. He declared that what we have received in Him is unmerited favour, freely given to us by His mighty name, Jesus Christ.
He added that many things in life can not be achieved except by His grace and mercy, and we need both to survive in these times because evil is everywhere. But God Almighty has promised that a thousand shall fall at our side, but it shall not come near us.
The governor then sang songs declaring the power and majesty of the Almighty, saying, “God Almighty, who has power, this is Your mighty adoration.” He declared that as we come into His presence, we shall receive His abundant blessings, mercy, and grace. The whole congregation began to speak in tongues as the Holy Spirit took over the entire atmosphere, filling every corner of the chapel.
He thanked God for who He is and what He means to His children, declaring that there is no limit to His power, that He speaks to us in different languages, hears us in every tongue, and answers our prayers. “There is no one like You, Lord, and none can be compared to You,” he said.
The Governor then began to sing: “With pleasure, we worship You, O Lord.” He prayed that as we worship Him this morning, our faith would be renewed and our heart’s desires granted. He appreciated everyone present, especially those who attended the Night of Praise the previous Friday.
He further advised the congregation to turn their ears away from rumors circulating on social media, quoting the scripture that says there will be rumors everywhere. He encouraged everyone to confirm information before taking sides, explaining that even if someone is known for speaking the truth, it is still important to double-check because no one is above error. He illustrated this point with the story of Saul and David and advised everyone to test every spirit, as the Bible says, “to know which is from God.”
He concluded by declaring that the God we serve is the God of all flesh and the Father of all spirits, so if we are truly children of God, there is no reason to fear. He encouraged the congregation to be hopeful, to renew their faith, and to believe that Christ in us brings good things to our lives. The congregation responded with a loud Amen to his prayers.
The resident pastor, Pastor Oluwatobi Oke, then took over the pulpit and appreciated the Governor for being a mentor and inspiration to everyone. He prayed for God’s word to be fulfilled in our lives and began his sermon titled “The Nature of Salvation.”””
He explained that many Christians do not fully understand what salvation truly means. He defined salvation as God’s act of rescuing humanity from sin and broke down sin into three categories:
Committed Sin – sins we actively commit,
Omitted Sin – the good we fail to do, and
Inherited Sin – the sinful nature we are born with.
He emphasised that inherited sin can not be overcome by human effort because the Bible says “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” That is why God gave us salvation, to cleanse us from inherited sin.
He explained that salvation has three parts:
- Justification – This is like a court session where God declares us righteous through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. He referenced Romans 3:24, Romans 8:30, and John 8:32, explaining that Jesus Christ was born without sexual intercourse to separate Him from the inherited sin of Adam and Eve, making Him the perfect sacrifice for humanity.
- Regeneration – This comes when we accept Jesus Christ into our lives, leading to spiritual rebirth and transformation. He referenced Galatians 3:27 to emphasise that believers put on Christ and no longer carry the condemnation of sin.
- Consecration (or Sanctification) – This is the dedication of our lives to God’s service. He quoted Isaiah 52:11, explaining that believers must separate themselves from sin and become vessels of honour, living holy lives dedicated to God.
The pastor ended by singing a song of consecration, praying for holiness, renewal, and dedication in the lives of all worshippers. The service ended in the mighty name of Jesus Christ with prayers, praises, and thanksgiving.
