The Supreme Court’s judgment affirming the governorship of Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in Ondo State, following the November 16, 2024 election, stands as a testament to the democratic will of the good people of Ondo State.
I extend my warmest congratulations to His Excellency, Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa (“Odogu 1”), and his deputy, Dr. Olaide Adelami, on this momentous victory at the apex court.
This judgment marks a triumph of democracy, underscoring the people’s mandate as expressed at the polls. With the Supreme Court’s dismissal of appeals by Hon. Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Bamidele Akingboye of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Ogunfeyimi Kolawole of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Abuja, the era of legal contestations over the gubernatorial election in Ondo State has come to a close. Consequently, Governor Aiyedatiwa has secured judicial validation of the people’s mandate.
Litigation is an inherent aspect of the electoral process. Nonetheless, this judicial journey has imbued the governorship election in Ondo State with the requisite credibility.
In conclusion, I wish to express my appreciation to the people of Ondo State and appeal for peace as we all unite with His Excellency, Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to propel Ondo State toward greater heights.
