Leaders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) from across the Southwest states have commended massive infrastructure development obtainable in Ekiti State.
Speaking during a facility tour, the NUJ leaders confirmed that they were marvelled by what they saw in some of the few places visited.
According to them, the image of Ekiti portrayed on social media is an opposite of what is obtainable, especially in the areas of infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, and human capital development.
The journalists, who were in Ekiti for the Southwest Zonal meeting hosted by the Ekiti Council, decided to fact-check some of the social media claims only to discover that the various statements that the state is underdeveloped were very untrue.
Addressing newsmen, some of the leaders said, “We haven’t been to Ekiti in recent times, but the picture of Ekiti we had was a state that has been backwards and very poor in all senses of it.
“However, to our surprise, on getting here, we saw a state full of life, bubbling, and we saw the various already completed and ongoing projects which couldn’t be wished away.”
Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has really done much within his three years in office, and we can only advise that he puts more efforts into doing more for his people.
“Ekiti is not underdeveloped, Ekiti is not poor, Ekiti is beautiful,” the southwest leaders concluded.
Earlier, the Vice President of the Zone, Comrade Ronke Samo, congratulated the Governor for the various successes recorded and urged him to continue to do more irrespective of the backlashes by the opposition.
Samo explained that the tour opened the eyes of journalists to many outstanding projects of government, such as the Youth in Agriculture initiative, the Ring Road, the Model Schools, the Builders’ market, the Airport, and the overhead bridge, just to mention but a few.
She confirmed that Ekiti is one of the fastest-growing states considering what has been done so far. Samo disclosed that some other few areas of observation have also been communicated to the government for necessary corrections.
