The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has begun a new phase of leadership with the emergence of new State Chairman, Barrister Victor Modupe Aisida.

Speaking at the party’s elective but largely affirmative congress held yesterday on Akure, the congress which was declared open by the outgoing Caretaker State Chairman, Dr Bakita Bello, brought together leaders, elders and delegates from across the state.

The event was graced by prominent figures, including a former Gubernatorial candidate, Eyitayo Jegede; former National Vice Chairman Dr Eddy Olafeso, State Elders Council Chairman Dr Omotayo Dairo; a former Chairman, Engineer Clement Faboyede, and the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba.

Also in attendance were party elders, women leaders, youth leaders and the PDP Electoral Committee led by Hon. Adewale Aribisala.

However the last 2024 governorship candidate of the party in Ondo State, Hon Agboola Ajayi shunned the elective congress, while the reason for his absence was not made known as at the time of filing this report.

With the affirmation of a new State Working Committee and Executive Committee, stakeholders described the congress as a fresh start for the PDP in Ondo State

Aisida who pledged to restore unity, discipline and strength to the party, expressed deep gratitude to members for entrusting him with what he described as the “sacred responsibility” of leading the PDP in the state.

Calling for an end to internal strife, he urged members to embrace forgiveness, reconciliation and unity in the pursuit of electoral victories.

In his welcome address, Bakkita Bello described the congress as “a constitutional assignment and a defining moment for the party,” urging members to embrace cohesion and purposeful leadership.

Bello summed it up: “At the end of this exercise, we will all be glad. It shall be a new beginning, a wonderful outing to lead us to victory in Ondo State.”
