- Tinubu’s reforms are working, economy stabilising — Asagunla
- AMG targets double votes for President in 2027 — Atikase
Akure, the Ondo State capital, came to a standstill on Friday as the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG), a pro-Tinubu independent support group, commissioned its secretariat and also inaugurated its State, 18 Local Government, and 203 Ward Executive members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Vehicular movement along one lane of the busy Oba Adesida/Cathedral dual carriageway was diverted by traffic officers to allow the smooth conduct of the event, while security was beefed up with heavy presence of the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
In a carnival-like atmosphere, thousands of members of the group, mainly members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledged their commitment to mobilise massive support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
AMG, founded by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is one of the leading platforms set up to rally grassroots backing for President Tinubu.
Speaking at the inauguration, AMG’s Director-General, Asiwaju Olumuyiwa Asagunla, said Tinubu’s bold economic reforms are beginning to yield results.
He said: “Initially, things went awry. Garri sold for about N1,200 per congo, rice for N1,500 per congo, and petrol between N1,200 and N1,700. But now, how much are we buying petrol? How much is a congo of rice? Things are getting better in Nigeria.
“If within two years we are seeing improvement, then we must allow the government of Bola Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Agenda, to continue.”
Also speaking, the Ondo State Representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Otito Atikase, said Tinubu’s developmental projects across the state have made the job of AMG members much easier.
He explained that the group’s target is to mobilise every eligible voter in the state to double the number of votes President Tinubu received in 2023.
Atikase listed some of the ongoing projects as the Akure–Ado-Ekiti dualisation, the Ore–Akure dualisation, and the 71-kilometre section of the Lagos–Calabar coastal road.
According to him: “This is the first time Ondo State will witness such a surge in federal projects. Work will soon commence on the Benin–Owo–Akure–Ilesha road, with N15 billion budgeted for the dualisation in this year’s budget.
