Teacher’s Day 2025: Ondo West Education Authority Honours Barr. Adesuyi Daramola with Consecutive “Best Philanthropist in Basic Education” Award
In celebration of the 2025 World Teachers’ Day themed “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” the Ondo West Local Government Education Authority, in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ondo West Branch, and the Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria, hosted a ceremony recognizing excellence and commitment within the education sector.
The event, which drew leading voices in education, government, and civil society, celebrated teachers, schools, and distinguished individuals whose work continues to inspire and redefine the future of learning in Ondo State.
Prominent attendees included Comrade Akinsete (NUT Chairman, Ondo West), Chief Akingbesote (Ondo West Option Chairman), Comrade Akintoroye (State Option Chairman), Barr. Bada Maruf Matthew (Education Secretary, Ondo West), Mrs. Akintaju (Director of Personnel, LGEA),
Among the highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of the Best Philanthropist in Basic Education Award to Barrister Adesuyi Daramola, honoured for the second consecutive year by the Ondo West Education Authority. The recognition underscores Daramola’s impact on grassroots education and his support for teaching and learning innovation in the region.
Barrister Daramola, a Nigerian lawyer and Founding Trustee of the Daramola Adesuyi Foundation (DAF), has become a symbol of purpose-driven philanthropy. Under his leadership, DAF has initiated transformative education programs that bridge learning gaps, empower teachers, and inspire young learners across Ondo Kingdom.
Through DAF, Barr. Daramola has successfully distributed over 5,000 copies of the Primary 6 Common Entrance Examination Past Questions Compendium to public schools, improving exam preparedness among pupils. The foundation’s online learning platform, hosting more than 400 video lessons in STEM subjects, is equipping secondary school students with digital access to quality education.
DAF’s Career Counselling Initiative has guided over 300 students on academic and career pathways through certified counsellors, while its scholarship scheme supports disadvantaged learners with access to prep-edutech resources.
In partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSC), the foundation has advanced educational inclusion by profiling and reintegrating out-of-school children.
Complementing these academic efforts, DAF has donated playground equipment to public primary schools, and organized two successful editions of its Annual Summer Bootcamp, training over 200 participants in ICT, arts, pastry making, and design — a model of community-based digital empowerment.
In his goodwill address, Comrade Sunday Akinsete, NUT Chairman, Ondo West Branch, praised the consistency of the Daramola Adesuyi Foundation in supporting teachers and students. He lauded Barr. Daramola’s “relentless commitment to building an equitable education ecosystem that uplifts the child, empowers the teacher, and strengthens the community.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Barr. Bada Maruf Matthew, Education Secretary, Ondo West LGEA, applauded all awardees for “transforming ideas into impactful legacies,” describing Daramola’s initiatives as “a testament to what purposeful leadership and philanthropy can achieve in the public education space.”
The event also recognized outstanding educators, including Mr. Sulimon (Best Male Teacher of the Year), Mrs. Akinsipe (Best Female Teacher of the Year), Comrade Meshach (Best Male Health Teacher of the Year), and Comrade Akinlade (Best Female Health Teacher of the Year).
Best School Awards were presented to Community Primary School, Laosho, and St. Stephen’s Anglican Primary School, Ondo.
The celebration, enriched with cultural performances and goodwill messages, concluded with renewed calls for collaboration in education, aligning perfectly with the year’s global theme of recasting teaching as a collaborative profession.
