FAKE SOLDIER IN POLICE NET FOR IMPERSONATION AND HARASSMENT OF RESIDENTS IN IDANRE
The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that on the 13th of October, 2025, upon credible intelligence received, the Divisional Police Officer, Idanre Division, personally led a team of officers to arrest one Victor Ojukwu, male, aged 28 years, of Alagbaka Area, Akure, who had been impersonating and parading himself as a military officer while harassing and intimidating members of the public.
During a search conducted on the suspect and his vehicle, the team recovered the following items: two camouflage handkerchiefs, one whistle, one fake military identity card and emblems, two Nigerian flags bearing the suspect’s picture, one horsewhip, and a pair of military camouflage socks. The prompt and coordinated action of the DPO and his team led to the swift arrest of the impostor, preventing further harassment of innocent residents and restoring public confidence in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc+, mnips, condemned the suspect’s criminal act, describing impersonation of military or other security personnel as a grave offence capable of undermining national security and eroding public trust in genuine law enforcement agencies.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the suspect is thoroughly investigated and charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation, stressing that such deceptive conduct will not be condoned under any circumstance.
In his remarks, the Commissioner appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his visionary leadership, strategic direction, and continuous support to State Commands, which have significantly enhanced proactive policing, intelligence gathering, and operational efficiency across the country. He further urged residents of Ondo State to remain vigilant and continue to cooperate with the Police by promptly reporting any suspicious or criminal activities for immediate action.
The Command hereby warns all individuals who engage in the criminal act of impersonating security operatives to desist forthwith. The Nigeria Police Force will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone found disguising as a member of the Armed Forces or other security agencies to commit crime or intimidate law-abiding citizens. Such acts of impersonation are viewed seriously under the law and will attract severe legal consequences.
