
The Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Emergency Response, Hon. (Prince) Wellington Oriade Adebawo, has visited the Obe-Nla community in Ilaje local government area of the state, where a brutal attack was carried out on Saturday, October 18, 2025. The attack, which left many with scars and bruises, saw houses, a factory, and belongings burnt to ashes.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, who are said to be officers of the Nigerian Navy stormed the community, setting houses ablaze, and beating anyone who dared to stand in their way. One of the community leaders, Mr. Japheth Omogbemi, Minister of C&S Church Ori-Oke Irapada Obe-Nla branch, recounted the horrors of that day. “It was a bizarre incident. I couldn’t run, and they beat me mercilessly,” he said, still shaken by the experience.
Hon. Adebawo, alongside a delegation from the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA), visited the palace of Oba Olubo, His Royal Majesty Oba Andrew Kolawole Olubakin 1, to further assess the damage caused by the attack. He assured the community of the government’s intervention in the matter, promising that investigation would be thoroughly carried out on the matter and the necessary support would be given to the victims of the attack.
“We are here to see the extent of the damage and to assure you that the government is with you,” Hon. Adebawo said. “We will do everything possible to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to book.” He added.
Hon. Adebawo alongside the officials of ODSEMA, saw firsthand some of the victims who were beaten during the attack, with visible bruises and scars, as they gathered in the palace of the king, Oba Olubo.
Oba Olubo expressed his appreciation to the Ondo State Government for the swift response to the incident and their commitment to supporting the victims of the attack.
