The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially removed its National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, from office over allegations of financial misappropriation, abuse of office, and gross misconduct.
According to the resolution sighted by our correspondent, the decision was taken during the NWC meeting held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the party’s National Secretariat, 17 Nairobi Street, Wuse II, Abuja.
The document indicated that the NWC acted upon the findings of a Disciplinary Committee and a subsequent White Paper, which indicted Gabam and other suspended national officers for misconduct, financial malfeasance, and violation of the SDP Constitution.
Also affected by the decision are Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, the suspended National Youth Leader, and Mr. Clarkson Nnadi, the National Auditor. While Gabam and Uchechukwu were both expelled from the party, Nnadi was relieved of his duties following his resignation.
The report also named other members, Comrade Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Israel Shuaibu, who were accused of forcibly breaking into the party’s secretariat in Abuja in July and stealing sensitive official documents.
They were later arrested and are currently being prosecuted in court.
The resolution further confirmed the appointment of Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe as Acting National Chairman, with Senator Ugochukwu Uba serving as Deputy National Chairman (South).
It stated that: “These resolutions take immediate effect. The Social Democratic Party remains committed to transparency, accountability, and discipline in its internal affairs.”
The document, which bears the signatures of 10 National Working Committee members, was signed by:
Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe – Acting National Chairman
Senator Ugochukwu Uba – Deputy National Chairman (South)
Dr. Olu Agunloye – National Secretary
Barr. Aderemi Abimbola – National Legal Adviser
Barr. Joseph Achile Abu – National Organizing Secretary
Araba Rufus Ayenigba – National Publicity Secretary
Hajia Maggie Mariam Batubo – National Treasurer
Mr. Bello Ado Hussaini – National Financial Secretary
Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdullahi – National Woman Leader
Mrs. Rosemary A. Effiong – National Labour and Civil Society Secretary
The NWC reiterated that the move was necessary to “restore order and integrity to the party” following what it described as serious breaches of trust and internal discipline.
The sweeping leadership changes mark one of the most significant shake-ups in the SDP’s recent history as the party seeks to reposition ahead of future political activities.
