Stop political recklessness, indecency in Owo —Youth group warns actors

PRESS RELEASE

Enough of the Disrespect and Division in Owo Politics — A Call for Decency, Unity, and Accountability

By the Progressive Youth Forum (PYF), Owo

In recent weeks, the Progressive Youth Forum (PYF) has observed, with deep concern and growing disappointment, the reckless conduct and unguarded utterances of certain political actors within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owo Local Government.

What we are witnessing is not mere politics — it is a systematic erosion of respect, hierarchy, and the collective values that have long bound us together as a people.

We cannot continue to sit in silence while individuals, driven by selfish ambition and blind loyalty to political benefactors, drag the image of our town, our leaders, and our party into disrepute.

The recent press statements emanating from the Owo APC Publicity Secretary, Dr. Idowu Ojo, are not only embarrassing but a direct assault on the spirit of unity that our community desperately needs at this crucial moment.

The deliberate rearrangement of recognition in his so-called “appreciation message” — placing appointees before the Deputy Governor of the State — is not an error, it is an insult. It is a calculated slight meant to sow seeds of discord and to undermine the office of the Deputy Governor, a son of Owo, before the watching eyes of the public.

This act represents everything wrong with our politics today — sycophancy elevated over substance, patronage worshipped over principle, and personal interest placed above communal progress.

Let it be clear: Owo youths will not stand by while political jobbers trade our unity for crumbs of temporary favour. We reject the politics of worship, the politics of puppetry, and the politics of division disguised as loyalty.

As young progressives, we refuse to inherit a broken Owo — one divided along the lines of petty rivalry, where every sincere voice of concern is branded as an enemy. The Deputy Governor, by virtue of his office, deserves the full respect and loyalty of every member of the party in Owo. Any attempt to ridicule or undermine that office is an affront to Owo’s collective dignity.

We are calling on the leadership of the APC in Ondo State to take urgent steps to restore order and discipline within the Owo chapter before this cancer of disrespect eats deep into the foundation of our local politics. The current trajectory threatens not only the unity of our town but the electoral fortune of the party in the coming polls.

Owo has always been known for political sophistication, not servitude. Our forebears built this town with integrity, intellect, and courage — not through flattery and gossip.

We cannot allow the sacrifices of men like Pa Ajasin, Akeredolu, and other patriots to be tarnished by a handful of opportunists seeking validation through mischief.

The Progressive Youth Forum, Owo, hereby declares:
Enough of the division. Enough of the manipulation. Enough of the disrespect.
We demand a return to decency, dialogue, and the pursuit of the common good.

Owo is greater than any individual.
And history will not be kind to those who trade her peace for their personal ambition.

Signed,
Progressive Youth Forum (PYF), Owo
For Unity, Accountability, and Progress.
