
ONDO ASSEMBLY PASSES BILL TO ESTABLISH STATE COASTAL AND WATER WAYS MANAGEMENT AGENCY: AMENDS PUBLIC AUDIT AND PROHIBITION ACT OF KIDNAPPING LAW IN THE STATE.
Towards harnessing the State’s maritime potentials and improved infrastructural development in water transportation for effective performance, Ondo State House of Assembly, has passed into law a bill to establish Ondo coastal and water ways Management Agency and for other matters connected Therewith 2025.
The bill was unanimously passed into law through voice votes at a plenary session presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Olamide Oladiji at the House of Assembly complex in Akure today.
The Passage followed the submission of the report by the sponsor of the bill who is also the lawmaker representing Ese Odo Constituency, Honourable Oluwatoyin Allen.
The motion for the bill to become law was moved by the House leader, Hon. Olatunji Oshati and seconded by the lawmaker representing Akure South Constituency ll, Hon. Oluwarotimi Abitogun.
Speaking earlier, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon(Chief) Olamide Oladiji, appreciated the sponsor of the bill for a job well done, saying that the Agency when established,would go a along way in sanitizing the water transportation services, regulate several illegal activities in the water ways and at the same time boost the internal generated revenue (lGR) of the State.
Also,the leader of the House, Hon (Chief) Olatunji Oshati, moved the motion for a bill to amend the prohibition of the act of kidnapping and abduction which was seconded by the lawmaker representing Owo Constituency 1,Hon. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi.
Presenting the report of the House Committee on Security and Community Development,its Chairman, Hon. Olatunji Ifabiyi explained that the amended law would go a long way in checkmating the incidents of kidnapping and abduction in Ondo State.
The House later passed the bill into law through unanimous voice votes.
Shortly after,the House Committee on Public Accounts submitted its report on a bill to amend the Ondo State Public Audit Amendment Law 2021 through the Chairman of the Committee,Hon.Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju.
The House leader, moved the motion for its passage and seconded by the lawmaker representing Akoko North West 2 Constituency,Hon(Barr)Afe Felix .
Earlier,the Speaker of the House, explained that the amendment law would further strengthen the offices of Auditors_General at both the State and local Government to discharge their duties efficiently.
According to him, the new development would no doubt guarantee the future of staff of the two offices career_wise and at the same time rank Ondo State among the comity of States whose Auditors’ offices are operating in line with global best practices.
The House later, passed the bill into law after a unanimous voice votes by the lawmakers and the sitting was adjourned till Wednesday,29th October,2025.
