With Optimum Town Planning (OTP): We can embrace a panacea-tool, for the rescue mission of environmental crisis in Nigeria.
In commemoration of 2025 World Town Planning Day, it’s expedient for us to celebrate & Advocate for proper Awareness of Town Planning.
However, town planning has always been the social & physical efforts designed to promote the basic, physical, economical, and environmental values of Nigeria populace.
Meanwhile environmental crisis has constituted the major setbacks bedeviling the growth and developments of Nigeria urban spaces.
As residents pay low committments to seek Planning Approvals for their proposed developmental projects.
More so, the recent environmental flood crisis in Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Niger, kogi, Ondo amidst others have unavoidably proven the need for improved town Planning activities for efficient functionality of urban spaces in the Country.
In order to achieve a sustainable inclusive, safe and Clean City. More focus have to be paid on town planning activities, by ensuring necessary approvals are carried out on any developments within the physical built up environment.
Because, town planning could be regarded as the art and science of ordering the use of land and siting of buildings and communicating routes so as to secure maximum practicable degree of economy, convenience and beauty.
It will interests us to know that town planning connotes the technical and political processes of creating plans and policies that guide the use of land and the development of built environment.
In furtherance, town planning involves the management of places and people with strict guidance of the authority in respect to stipulated planning rules and regulations.
Town Planners are professional who develops plans for different land uses to ensure orderliness, aesthetics, environmental cohesion and seamless accessibility.
They develop plans and programs for the use of land. Their plans help to create communities, accommodate population growth and revitalize physical facilities in villages, towns, cities and metropolitan areas. City planners make long and short plans / goals about the use of land.
The welfarism of people or users of the environment thereby remains sacrosanct in order to attain the optimum focus of Town/ urban Planning.
Town planning encompasses all aspects of human activities, housing, Education, Transportation, Security, Food, Health, Etc. in order to bring sanity to the Land.
In the quest for a sustainable panacea, Town planning is deemed a pivotal tool to ameliorate the devastating environmental crisis in Nigeria communities. The environmental crisis such as climate change, air pollution, floods, indiscriminate refuse dumping, unplanned settlements & emergence of slums, amidst others can be mitigated by levelling on the optimization of town planning activities for the achievement of sustainable development goals Agenda (4, 6, and 11) in Nigeria communities.
However, on Today´s Occasion of World Town Planning Day, Avant-Integrity Humanitarian Initiatives (AIHI) under the leadership of Tpl. Segun Orimoloye, Mnitp, Rtp, arpa. further seek the committments of environmental stakeholders & Users (Environmental Professionals, Traditional rulers, Concerned Environmental Agencies, Etc.) and government prompt responses to deteriorating and unco-ordinated land spaces, in order to ensure the optimization or effective use of town planning as a resource-tool to proffer solution to environmental crisis in Nigeria communities, most especially Ondo state.
This could further be achieved by engaging a professional Town planner for your proposed building plans before any developmental projects within the physical space, consulting the appropriate regulatory government agencies for proper guidance and avoidance of unplanned settlements, while shunning the continual emergence of slums.
