- As Hundreds of NURTW members dump PDP for APC
- HAIL President Tinubu, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo BTO
The quality of road construction under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, particularly the ongoing switch from asphalt to concrete, will make Nigerian roads last for 100 years, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ondo State has declared.
This was the position of hundreds of members and leaders of the NURTW across the 18 local government areas of the state who, on Tuesday, officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.
The defectors, led by Comrade Ojo Adewole, Comrade Gbenga Ijalade, Mukaila Alegboleye, Elder Abimbola Jimoh and 50 others, were received by the APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, alongside members of the State Executive Committee, at a carnival-like political event held at the party’s Secretariat in Akure.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Comrade Adewole praised President Tinubu’s massive infrastructure drive, especially the federal road projects currently ongoing in the state.
“We are road transport workers. We know the condition of all our roads before President Tinubu came in. We all know how much we spent on our vehicles after going for a trip.
“However, the story is changing gradually. Our pain has become joy. We commend the President for not abandoning the Ado–Ikare–Akure road construction which began under Buhari. Very soon, this road will be completed. We are glad that the President has also started the construction and dualisation of the Benin–Owo–Akure–Ilesha–Ibadan road, as well as the construction of the Ore–Ondo dualisation road. The joy of this fantastic job is that the President is not using asphalt but concrete, which we know will last for 100 years.”
Adewole described the scale of federal road projects in Ondo State as unprecedented.
“This is the first of its kind in Ondo State. We have never had it so good in the history of our Sunshine State that a President will be working on more than four federal roads at the same time.
“The 700km Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, which Ondo State will also benefit from, is another laudable project of Mr President. So who will see such a President and not want to associate with him?”
The NURTW leader also commended the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for what he described as impactful and innovative contributions to national development.
“When we were yet to join the APC, Tunji-Ojo never discriminated. He behaves like someone who believes his appointment is not only for party members but for all the people of Ondo State. We appreciate the President for appointing someone like Tunji-Ojo.”
Receiving the defectors, APC State Chairman, Engr. Adetimehin, who stood in for the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, assured them that they would not regret joining the ruling party.
He urged them to feel at home in the APC and continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at bringing relief to the ordinary Nigerian.
Adetimehin added that with the latest development, Ondo State is now fully consolidated as a strong APC territory.
