Apprehension as 16 Ondo Prospective NYSC corps members Feared Dead in road crash

There is widespread fear and anxiety following unconfirmed reports that an 18-seater bus conveying prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from Ondo state was involved in a fatal accident while heading to the NYSC orientation camp in Gombe State.

Details of the incident, which reportedly occurred on Wednesday along a northern highway, are still uncleared but it’s generating intense concerns and apprehension across social media platforms.

Early accounts circulating online suggest that as many as 16 passengers, including the driver, may have lost their lives, while two others were said to be in critical condition.

However, official confirmation has not been released by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the NYSC, or relevant government authorities.

Sources indicate that the vehicle allegedly veered out of control before crashing, but the circumstances remain unclear.

FRSC officials are expected to launch a formal investigation to determine the cause and verify the casualty figures.

As of press time, the NYSC had yet to issue a statement on the matter. The situation has renewed conversations about the safety implications of long-distance travel for corps members deployed across the country for national service.

Families, students, and the academic community are anxiously awaiting verified updates from official channels
