Confusion as Mad Man Stabs Security Officer to Death in Ondo

Tragedy struck amidst confusion at Oke-Ala community in Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Thursday as a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was fatally stabbed by a mentally unstable youth during an intervention to restrain him.

Eyewitnesses said the suspect’s mother had invited two NSCDC officers to help control her son, who had reportedly been unstable for years and was causing unrest in the area.

According to residents, the situation escalated while the officers attempted to chain the young man to prevent further disturbance.

In the process, he allegedly overpowered one of the officers, seized his knife and stabbed him repeatedly.

“The boy suddenly became violent. He struggled with the officer, took his knife and stabbed him several times,” an eyewitness recounted.

“It was shocking because the officer was even armed, yet he could not prevent the attack.”

The injured NSCDC personnel was rushed to the hospital but later died from the injuries sustained during the violent encounter.

Confirming the incident, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer (PRO) in Ondo State, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, said the officers were in the process of restraining the suspect with the intention of taking him to a psychiatric hospital for proper treatment when the incident occurred.

He explained that the tragic attack happened in the course of trying to ensure the safety of both the suspect and the community.
