Ondo South Senatorial Bye-election: The Issues and Facts

Ondo South Senatorial District consists of six Local Governments: Ese-Odo, Ilaje, Ileoluji/Okeigbo, Irele, Odigbo, and Okitipupa.

Any local government that is having an incumbent House of Representatives is not expected to be considered to contest in this by election because they can’t have a sitting House of Representatives member and at the same time have a senate seat.

As a result of this, Ese-Odo, Irele, and Ileoluji/Okeigbo are ruled out because they have House of Representatives currently.

Another factor to be considered is the issue of positions that are currently in the Local governments. Ilaje is having the governorship, OSOPADEC, NDDC, Federal Character Commission, and memeber, Governing Council of Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).

Okitipupa is currently having the National Population Commission, NPC, South West Development Commission, and is taken for granted as having the Ambassadorial position. Ileoluji/ Okeigbo is currently having the SSA to the president.

The only local government without any federal presence as at this moment is ODIGBO LOCAL GOVERNMENT. Hence, In this forthcoming senatorial by election, the All Progressive Congress, APC, and the leadership of Ondo South Senatorial District should focus their attention on ODIGBO LOCAL GOVERNMENT.
