The Ondo state government has honored the Chief Medical Director of Sckye Hospitals Ltd and former presidential aspirant, Dr Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, JP with the Ondo State Volunteer Ambassador award in recognition of his selfless contributions to the development of Ondo State and his outstanding contributions to humanitarian service.
The event which was held at the International Conference Center (The Dome) to commemorate the 2025 International Volunteers Day, was anchored by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on volunteering service.
In his words, Hon Adeolu Iwakun the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on volunteering service said the award was given to Dr Ikubese in recognition of his outstanding humanitarian and philanthropic service across Ondo state and beyond, especially his consistent medical support to individuals and vulnerable communities.
Since 2004, Sckye hospitals ltd, established by Dr Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, has been rendering free antenatal services to pregnant women across Ondo state and beyond. This covers free booking, free drugs, free laboratory investigations, free ultrasound, free vaginal deliveries and free Caesarean sections for higher order multiple gestations. Dr Ikubese also places each of the higher order deliveries on a monthly allowance of ten thousand naira each for a period of one year. On some instances, depending on the need of the family, Dr Ikubese extends the payment of the monthly allowance beyond one year. A particular family for instance (the Oganas) is recorded to have been receiving the monthly allowance of thirty thousand naira monthly since the birth of their triplets over four years ago, till date.
Ikubese also offered any of the triplets who decides to study Medicine/Surgery full scholarship in the medical school.
The hospital is also known to regularly write off the medical bills of underprivileged patients.
Hon Iwakun further stated that this award celebrates the unwavering commitment of Dr Ikubese to saving lives, promoting wellness and advancing community health through selfless service.
The event which had the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as the Chief Host was well attended by dignitaries from all works of life, with rich cultural entertainment provided by the cultural troops of Ondo State and Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School.
Some of the other awardees at the occasion were Dr Mrs Damilola Oshin, Proprietor of Mummy’s Place Schools, Chief Isaac Tapere, CEO Tisco Nigeria Ltd, Pastor Evelyn Joshua, wife of late Prophet TB Joshua whose ministry is renowned for philanthropy and Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan, the chief press secretary to the Governor of Ondo state, who makes monthly donation of his remuneration to people via his social media handles.
