
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Technical and Vocational Education, Hon. Tayo Oluyi, has embarked on an in-depth tour of the five government-owned technical colleges across Ondo State to assess teaching and learning conditions, listen to concerns from principals, teachers, and students, and to further align the colleges with the administration’s strategic vision for technical education.
The tour covered the following institutions: Government Technical College, Owo Owo Local Government Area; Government Technical College, Okitipupa, Okitipupa Local Government Area; Government Technical College, Idanre Idanre Local Government Area; Government Technical College, Oka-Akoko – Akoko North West Local Government Area; and Federal Science Technical College, Ikare-Akoko – Akoko North West Local Government Area.
Speaking during the tour, Hon. Oluyi said the Governor’s administration is determined to reposition technical education as a cornerstone of workforce development in Ondo State.
Hon. Oluyi said Governor Aiyedatiwa remains deeply committed to uplifting technical and vocational education in the state, stressing that these institutions are critical to driving innovation, economic productivity and sustainable employment for youth.
“Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa recognises the pivotal role that technical and vocational education plays in building a competitive and self-reliant workforce.
We are here to listen, to understand the realities on the ground, and to ensure that interventions are properly aligned with the needs of our teachers, principals and students,” he noted.
He assured that the ongoing rehabilitation of dilapidated structures across the technical colleges will be completed with renewed vigour and a facelift that symbolizes the government’s renewed interest in improving learning environments.
“We are moving swiftly to ensure that all ongoing renovations are completed to modern standards. Our students deserve safe, conducive and inspiring learning spaces,” Hon. Oluyi stated.
The SSA emphasised that technical education is essential to the advancement of the state’s economy.
“A strong technical education system is not an option, it is a necessity. It equips our youth with practical skills that empower them to create jobs, support industries and drive economic growth,” he explained.
At Government Technical College, Okitipupa, the principal, Omotola Faye, applauded the Governor’s commitment.
“We are grateful to Governor Aiyedatiwa for prioritising technical education. His support has given us renewed hope and motivation to excel. We know that with your visit, some of the challenges we have in the college will be tackled head on to improve technical education” he said
Similarly, the principal of Government Technical College, Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo, commended the foresight of the SSA on technical education.
“We appreciate the insight and leadership of Hon. Tayo Oluyi. His engagement with our institution renews our confidence that the state government truly understands and values the role of technical colleges,” the principal remarked.
The tour enabled the SSA to interact directly with students and teachers, gaining first-hand insight into infrastructure needs, curriculum challenges, and opportunities for skills acquisition expansion.
As the tour concluded, stakeholders expressed optimism that the government’s renewed focus on technical education will transform traditional teaching models, enrich skill acquisition pathways, and ultimately support the state’s economic prosperity.
