LG Chairman, Hon. Ayo Ajana launches Special welfare scheme for Aged Persons in Akoko Southwest

HON. AYO AJANA LAUNCHES SPECIAL WELFARE SCHEME FOR 300 AGED PERSONS IN AKOKO SOUTH WEST LGA

–Reaffirms commitment to improving the wellbeing of residents

The Executive Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government, Hon. Ayo Ajana, on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, officially launched a special welfare scheme targeting at 300 aged persons across the local government area while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of residents.

Hon. Ayo Ajana made this declaration during the flag-off ceremony held earlier at the Akoko South West Local Government Secretariat, Oka Akoko.

He described the initiative as a clear example of democratic dividends and a reflection of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and social welfare.

Hon. Ayo Ajana noted that “the beneficiaries, elderly citizens who have contributed significantly to community development over the years, have received ₦20,000 in monthly arrears from August to date, totaling ₦80,000 per beneficiary. This support package is designed to ease their daily burdens and improve their living conditions. He emphasised that the programme sends a clear message that senior citizens in Akoko South West are not forgotten.”

Hon. Ayo Ajana expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for providing an enabling environment that allows local governments to execute impactful and people-oriented programmes.

Highlighting the achievements of his administration within ten months in office, Hon. Ayo Ajana stated that roads have been graded across all 15 wards of the local government.

He explained that the solar-powered borehole at Korowa, Oka, has been rehabilitated and reticulated to ensure better water supply. Hon. Ayo Ajana further revealed that two single-cell box culverts have been constructed at Owase/Iboje Quarters to improve drainage. He confirmed that Imesi Road in Supare Akoko has been filled and graded.

The oldest building in the local government secretariat, which houses the Works, Community and NYSC units, has been comprehensively renovated. Hon. Ayo Ajana also reported that brand-new vehicles have been purchased and distributed to royal fathers and that a Toyota Hiace bus has been procured for the legislative arm of the local government. He assured that other developmental initiatives are ongoing to promote sustainable growth across the local government.

Speaking on behalf of the royal fathers, HRM Oba Stephen Oloruntele Ogunoye I, the Olusin of Owalusin, Iwaro Oka Akoko, described the project as a landmark achievement for grassroots governance in Ondo State.

He commended both Governor Aiyedatiwa and Hon. Ayo Ajana for prioritising the welfare of the elderly and reaffirmed the support of traditional rulers for their administrations.

The monarch also praised Hon. Ayo Ajana’s numerous infrastructural projects across Akoko South West, noting that his leadership has brought visible progress to the local government.

Representing the beneficiaries, Alhaji Ishola Lawal and Chief Mrs Alonge Abigail from Wards 3 and 5 expressed heartfelt appreciation, describing the initiative as the first of its kind in the local government and thanking the Governor, Hon. Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and Hon. Ayo Ajana for remembering and uplifting the aged.

The flag-off event was attended by HRM Oba Adebori Adeleye, OON, the Olubaka of Oka Akoko (represented), HRM Oba Stephen Oloruntele Ogunoye I, the Olusin of Owalusin, Iwaro Oka Akoko, HRM Princess Bolanle Deborah Jacob, Regent of Ikun Akoko (represented), LCDA Chairman, Hon.
