Ex-Akure Lawmaker, Borokini becomes Youngest Knight in the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion

The Senior Legislative Aide to the President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, and former Whip and Member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Simeon Toluwani Borokini, has been conferred with the prestigious honour of Grand Commander of the Order of Saint Christopher.

The investiture took place on Sunday, December 14, during a well-attended ceremony at the Cathedral of St. Paul, Omu-Aran, in the Diocese of Omu-Aran, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion).

The honour was conferred by the Lord Bishop of Omu-Aran Diocese, Rt. Revd. Festus Sobanke.

Borokini, a son of the Archbishop of Ondo Ecclesiastical Province, The Most Rev. Simeon Oluwole Borokini, PhD, CFAT, thereby became the youngest member of the Council of Knights of St. Christopher in the Diocese of Omu-Aran and one of the youngest in the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.

Following the signing of the oath and pledge of absolute loyalty to the Lord Bishop of the Diocese, he was presented with the Scroll and the Sword of the Spirit, symbolising commitment to faith, service, and discipline.

Sir Simeon Toluwani Borokini and his wife, Lady Ayobami Borokini, were among five persons invested as Knights of St. Christopher at the ceremony, bringing the total number of members of the Diocesan Council to fifteen.

Speaking after the investiture, Sir Simeon said service to God and humanity had remained a core priority throughout his life journey, noting that the honour was meant to draw him and his household closer to God.

Flanked by his wife, Lady Ayobami Borokini, the Senior Legislative Aide to the President of the Senate pledged to remain a blessing to the Kingdom of God and prayed for divine grace as he embraced the responsibilities of knighthood.

In a sermon delivered at the event, the Bishop of Ife Diocese, Rt. Revd. Olubunmi Akinlade, reminded the newly invested knights that “many are called, but few are chosen.”

He emphasised that knighthood is bestowed on men of proven character and notable achievements who have distinguished themselves through faithful service to God and humanity.

The investiture ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abduraheem Oladele Adeoti; the President of Women’s Organisations of Akure Anglican Diocese and Ondo Ecclesiastical Province, Princess Christianah Adetunmbi Borokini, who led a delegation from Akure Diocese; Sir Hon. Job A. Afolayan, President of the Council of Knights and former Clerk of the Kwara State House of Assembly; and Sir Hon. Justice Ayinla O. Bamgbola, Chairman of the House of Laity, Church of Nigeria, and Chancellor.
