Two-Years on: AKETI was not just a Governor

Today, with deep respect and sober hearts to we’re remembering a great son of Ondo State, Arákùnrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, fondly called AKETI, one year after his passing. Though one year has gone, his presence is still strongly felt in our hearts, our communities, and in the governance of Ondo State.

AKETI was not just a governor; he was a leader with courage, vision, and a strong sense of justice. As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, he believed deeply in the rule of law and fairness. These values guided him throughout his public service. He spoke boldly against injustice, even when it was not popular to do so. He stood firm in his beliefs, showing that leadership requires courage and integrity.

As Governor of Ondo State, AKETI worked tirelessly for the progress of the state. He paid attention to infrastructure development, especially roads, schools, and health facilities. His administration also made efforts to improve the welfare of workers and ensure prompt payment of salaries. He understood that a government that fails to care for its workers cannot truly serve its people.

One of his most notable contributions was his commitment to the security of lives and property. AKETI was a strong supporter of regional security cooperation, which led to the creation and strengthening of Amotekun. He believed that the people must feel safe in their homes and farms. This bold step showed his love for his people and his determination to protect them.

AKETI was also a proud son of the Yoruba nation. He valued culture, unity, and cooperation among the people of the Southwest. He believed that development could only come when people work together in peace and mutual respect. His leadership encouraged dialogue, understanding, and regional development.

Beyond politics, AKETI was a family man and a compassionate human being. He showed kindness to many and offered support to those in need. Many lives were touched by his generosity, encouragement, and wise counsel. His humility and simplicity made him approachable, even as a man of high office.

One year after his departure, we remember AKETI not with tears alone, but with gratitude. We celebrate a life of service, courage, and dedication. His legacy challenges us to serve selflessly, speak the truth, and stand for what is right.

May the memory of Arákùnrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, continue to inspire leaders and citizens alike. May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may Ondo State continue to benefit from the foundation he laid. AKETI may be gone, but his legacy lives on.
