Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, has admitted 936 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session at its 19th matriculation ceremony held on Friday.
The colourful ceremony, which took place at the Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Auditorium, formally ushered the new students into the university community in line with the regulations of the institution’s Senate and the National Universities Commission.
In his address, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Oyesoji Aremu , congratulated the new students and their parents, describing their admission as major milestone.
He said Achievers University remained committed to academic excellence, discipline, character formation and leadership development.
According to him, the institution blends knowledge with integrity and moral values to prepare students for leadership roles in society.
He urged the matriculants to embrace self-discipline, resilience and responsibility as they embark on what he described as a demanding but transformative academic journey.
The Vice-Chancellor also cautioned the students against social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, cybercrime and drug abuse, warning that such acts attract grave consequences.
He advised them to cultivate positive friendships, respect diversity and engage in activities that promote personal and academic growth, while assuring parents of the university’s commitment to the safety and welfare of their wards.
In his remarks, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, congratulated the newly matriculated students and expressed optimism that enrolment would increase in subsequent years.
Ayorinde reiterated the university’s zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, listing offences that attract outright expulsion to include cultism, drug abuse, bullying, sexual harassment, misuse of social media, possession of fetish objects, alcohol consumption and fraudulent activities.
He added that offences such as examination malpractice, stealing, disobedience to university authorities, illegal squatting, cooking in hostels, driving on campus, blackmail and dissemination of obscene materials attract disciplinary action, urging students to strictly comply with the institution’s rules.
Delivering the matriculation lecture earlier and titled: ‘Your University, Your Network: Building Relationships and Opportunities’, Mrs Ayobami Felix-Olaniyi, who is the Head of the Internal Audit Unit, Kwara State Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, said university education goes beyond lectures and examinations, noting that relationships and networks built on campus play a critical role in shaping students’ futures.
The lecturer who doubles as an alumna described networking as the intentional creation of meaningful connections with peers, lecturers, alumni and professionals that can provide mentorship and career opportunities.
She encouraged the students to participate actively in study groups, student organisations, seminars and professional events, while maintaining integrity, humility and a positive digital presence. According to her, a strong university network opens doors to internships, scholarships, collaborations and lifelong professional relationships.
