Support women’s Special Seats Bill —NAWOJ urges Ondo Lawmakers

Ondo NAWOJ Declares Full Support for Special Seats Bill, Calls for Alignment to Address Gender Imbalance

The Ondo State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has declared full and unequivocal support for the Special Seats Bill (HB 1349), describing it as a vital legislative intervention aimed at correcting the persistent gender imbalance in governance in Nigeria.

Ondo NAWOJ calls on the Ondo State House of Assembly to formally align with national efforts geared towards promoting women’s political inclusion by publicly supporting the Bill and lending its institutional voice to the advocacy for increased women representation in decision-making.

The Association also urges all federal lawmakers representing Ondo State at the National Assembly to demonstrate commitment to equity, fairness, and inclusive governance by voting in favour of the Special Seats Bill when it comes up for consideration.

According to Ondo NAWOJ, the Special Seats Bill is important because it provides a structural solution to the systemic exclusion of women from elective positions, strengthens democratic governance, and ensures that women’s perspectives are adequately represented in lawmaking and national development processes.

The Association emphasises that inclusive governance is not only a gender issue but a developmental necessity, as societies that actively involve women in leadership are better positioned to achieve sustainable growth, social justice, and peace.

Ondo NAWOJ therefore reiterates its resolve to continue advocacy, public engagement, and strategic collaboration with relevant stakeholders until the Special Seats Bill is passed into law.
