Ford Foundation Grant: WARDC battle ready against GBV in Ondo

The war against Gender Based Violence in Ondo State has received a boost with the timely intervention of FORD Foundation Grant.

This was part of information disclosed by ROTDOW and K&TRC who paid a courtesy visit to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Gender, Hon Mrs Olamide Falana.

The Grant which was proposed by Women Advocates Research & Documentation Centre (WARDC) has been sun-awarded to Restoration of the Dignity of Womanhood (ROTDOW) and Kids & Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC) to execute Solidarity, Accountability and Commitment to Ending Violence against Women & Girls (SACWAG) in Ondo state.

The Executive Director of K & TRC, Folasade Bamigboye in her opening speech hinted that SACWAG, which is an Advocacy Programme is also ongoing in the Southwestern part of Nigeria while K&TRC and ROTDOW have been allocated to execute the project in the sunshine State.

Bamigboye reiterated that Female folks are most vulnerable to violence hence directing the focus of the project on Women, Girls and the Handicapped.

In the same vein, the CEO, ROTDOW, Mrs Olabisi Omolona added that SACWAG will be executed in four communities in Ondo State.

K&TRC will be stationed at Bamikemo and Ologundudu at Ileoluji/Okeigbo LGA in the Southern Senatorial district while ROTDOW will be present at Amurin and Usho at Owo LGA in the Northern Senatorial district of the State.

Omolona hinted that the strategy to be employed in the execution of the project is the immediate training of Community Response Team to be resident in each Community. They are to report any form of violence to the Traditional Leader who thereafter takes further step when required.

‘We now realize most women don’t talk when they face violence because of what people will sa, just like that of the late Gospel Singer , Osinachi. She didn’t want to talk because she wanted to keep her home until she died. We don’t want such to happen again’

The Groups, thereafter solicited for the unflinching support of the office of the Special Adviser for the smooth running of the Project while presenting a pact on a sticker to be signed by stakeholders and pasted on doors as a reminder of their commitment to fight against Gender Based Violence.

Responding, Hon Mrs Olamide Falana who signed the pact and pasted at the entrance of her office commended WARDC for considering Ondo State as a beneficiary of SACWAG also appreciated FORD Foundation for the financial support.

She affirmed that the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu(SAN) is not resting on his oars in his quest to stem all forms of violence in the state as evident in the inauguration of Ondo State Agency Against Gendee Based Violence (OSAA-GBV).

However she charged the team to widen their coverage in the State as Four Communities is obviously not adequate to measure the impact of the project.

ROTDOW and K & TRC are two seperate Non Governmental Advocacy Agency with the aim of advancing, promoting and supporting Government and other stakeholders in Sustainable Development in the Society.
