Oba Olusegun Aganun crowned as Olupele of Ipele amidst Funfair

It was fun and moment of history making in carnival like, as Oba Victor Olusegun Aganun was at the weekend installed as the Olupele of Ipele town in Owo local government area of Ondo State in line with tradition, norms and culture of the ancient community.

The historic event held on Saturday 30th April, 2022, marked a new dawn in the town which had been without a traditional ruler since late Oba Alade joined his ancestors over 8years ago.

The State Executive Council had recently approved the selection of Oba Olusegun Aganun as Olupele, which enabled the 16 most Senior High Chiefs comprising the kingmakers and other Quarter Chiefs led by most Senior Chief, High Chief Raji Sanni Olujase to perform the installation rites.

The traditional rites started at about 8:00am on Saturday at the Olupele’s palace where some rites were performed by the chiefs for the new Kabiyesi and ewe Akoko was put on him and immediately proceeded to the town to perform rites at different locations accompanied by his Olori, residents, all the seven age groups and other well-wishers. 

On return to the palace from all the locations, Oba Aganun stepped into the palace marching on the blood a pure white ram that was slaughtered as tradition demands.

Our Correspondent who witnessed the ceremony, reports that at this point, the new monarch changed to another cloth with his Queen and they came out at the palace square again where the Olushorope performed for sometime to entertain guests.

The most Senior Chief thereafter crowned the king to the delight of his people, while All the 7age groups took turn to pay homage to the new monarch.

The Village Heads, Baales under Ipele also paid homage to Kabiyesi one after the other with their villagers while The Head of 8Quarters and the Chiefs from the quarters were not left out the historic paying of homage.

Oba Victor Olusegun Aganun will be on Saturday 30th April, 2022 traditionally installed as the Olupele by traditional High Chiefs in the community.

With the installation traditionally, all is now set for Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to present Staff of Office and Instruments of Office to the new Olupele.
