Breaking: Ex-Ondo Gov Adefarati’s Son wins Akoko Southwest/Southeast APC Reps Primary

Son of a former Ondo state Governor and immediate past Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Hon Gboyega Adefarati has won the All Progressives Congress, APC for Akoko Southwest/Southeast federal constituency in an exercise conducted amidst tight security.

Adefarati scored 95votes to defeat the serving House of Representatives member, Hon Ade Adeogun who scored two votes while other aspirants like Victor Ategbole polled 6votes, Barrister John Adanike scored one votes and Stephen Adeyeri got three votes.

It was gathered that the exercise was moved from Oka Akoko on Friday to a neutral place in Akure as a result of heavy security concern and likely breakdown of law and order at the venue at Oka Akoko, which forced security operatives, APC primary committee officials and INEC officials to seek for the conduct of the exercise at a peaceful environment.

The primary was held at the DOME INTERNATIONAL EVENT CENTRE in Akure yesterday Friday after delegates were accredited with party’s membership card and voters card and the process was witnessed by security agents, INEC Officials and newsmen.

Declaring the result of the primary, the APC electoral primary committee Chairman, Dr Kingsley Nwankwere, said the two votes were voided while 21 ballot papers were not used.

Dr Nwankwere said the exercise satisfied all necessary laws and declared Adefarati as the APC candidate in the 2023 general election for the federal constituency.

Speaking with newsmen after his emergence, Hon Gboyega Adefarati expressed delight that the exercise was conducted transparently and peacefully.

Adefarati confirmed that many lives could have been lost if the primary was held in Oka Akoko, alleging that hundreds of heavily armed political hoodlums had stormed the place, causing security breaches.
